The article printed on the 3rd February featured the Shakerscope which will be distributed by Timesco.

The article reads:

'TORCH POWERED BY SHAKING PROBLEM:
Medical equipment for examining patients often needs batteries or bulbs, which can fail without warning, potentially endangering lives.

SOLUTION: ShakerScope, a medical device that will provide a bright light when you shake it.

EUREKA MOMENT: When the bulb in vital medical equipment started to fail in their operating theatre six years ago, consultant anaesthetists John Dingley and David Williams realised they had no time to change it and had to grab a spare device.

Later, after discussing how useful a wind-up light would be for such emergencies, they invented Shaker- Scope. Containing a moving magnet inside a coil, it generates power when shaken.

Shaking it for a minute pro duces ten minutes of bright light. Instead of a bulb that could fail, it uses a light-emitting diode (LED) like those used in domestic standby buttons, which work for up to 100,000 hours.

The light can withstand wet or dusty conditions, or sit on a shelf for years until needed.'
